I was reading that this was done digitally. I was rather surprised because I could have sworn this was a sketch or watercolor, done traditionally. I enjoy the use of implied lines with the neck of the horse. It creates a sense of lightness and implies a light horse materializing out of the fog. I can only hope that one day my traditional painting skills could match this level of mastery. The balance of light and shadow are well balanced. the only suggestion i would make is possibly to push some of the lights and contrast by adding some highlights on the right side of the horses face. that would emphasize a sense of depth. right now because the lightest areas of the face of the horse is the same of the light in the background, it has a tendency to flatten the picture. the other alternative to create that depth is to use a hint of white along the highlights in the face of the horse. that difference is the contrast that's needed, either add white in the face, or in the background.
